COVID-19 Response UPDATES

National Rural Support Programme
Rahim Yar Khan

COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our times and the greatest challenge that is being faced by the world. Since its emergence in Asia late last year, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica. Cases are rising rapidly throughout the world. Countries are racing to slow the spread of the virus by testing and treating patients, carrying out contact tracing, limiting travel, quarantining citizens and canceling large gatherings such as sporting events, concerts and schools. The pandemic is moving like a wave—one that may yet crash on those least able to cope with. But COVID-19 is much more than a health crisis having the potential to create devastating social, economic and political crisis that will leave the deep scars on the face of the world and humanity. Every day, people are losing jobs and income, with no way of knowing when normalcy will return.

The field offices and branches of the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Rahim Yar Khan (RYK) have compiled directories of the “Activists” & “Community Resource Persons (CRPs)” and established a system of contacting those who are well equipped and literate in using mobile and social media technology. The approved messages, scanned handouts and banners are being disseminated daily through messages and social media calls. We are making coordination better amongst district government, health institutions and the people through phone calls & messaging, door to door individual-level contacts, proclamations through mosques and other locally available means of careful communication.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Stay home if you feel unwell.
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately in advance.

Follow the directions of your local health authority.
